South African concept store Merchants on Long celebrates and promotes the best of what the African continent has to offer. Opened in 2010, the store has evolved into an international platform for both emerging and established brands from around the continent, including award-winning brands Maxhosa Africa, Sindiso Khumalo, Lukhanyo Mdingi, Rich Mnisi and MmusoMaxwell. All brands stocked at Merchants are ethically made and sourced on the African continent.
A BRIEF HISTORY
34 LONG STREET
A treasure trove of African design, Merchants on Long was originally housed in its iconic and historic 34 Long Street building in Cape Town. Designed by architect Anthony M. De Witt and restored by Merchants to bring it back to its former glory, the building remains a strong inspiration for the brand.

Merchants at the V&A
In December 2020, Merchants on Long unveiled a new retail space at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront. Paying homage to its original 34 Long Street home, the new space houses a curated selection of the most exciting brands from the African continent, including Maxhosa Africa, Sindiso Khumalo, Lukhanyo Mdingi, Mmuso Maxwell and Rich Mnisi.
