Green Embroidered Linen Pillow Crane
- Description
Each pillow cover is meticulously hand-embroidered by a collective of women artisans living in the Bidibidi refugee camp in northern Uganda, one of the largest refugee settlements in the world. "Milaya" refers to the traditional embroidered bed covers created by South Sudanese women, a craft that carries deep cultural significance.
The women behind each piece bring generations of embroidery knowledge to life, using their craft as a way to sustain their families while navigating the hardships of displacement. Despite working under challenging conditions, they carefully wash all materials by hand and stitch each design while tending to their daily household tasks.
Every pillow cover reflects their resilience, artistry, and dedication. As each piece is handmade, slight variations and small imperfections are part of its unique character, making no two exactly alike. By purchasing this product, you directly support these women, helping to preserve their cultural traditions and provide sustainable livelihoods.
